Abstract

One of the indisputably significant aspects of Richardson's Heidegger: Through Phenomenology to Thought is the Preface to this work that Heidegger consented to write, after reading the German version of a résumé of Richardson's research and findings.¹ There are two points here that should not go unnoticed. First, it should be pointed out that the text of the résumé does not have the form of a dialogue. Thus with two exceptions, it is not clear what the questions were that Richardson put to Heidegger in the course of their "long and wide-ranging discussion..."² Secondly, it should be pointed out that Heidegger's Preface to Richardson's book is actually a response to a letter that Richardson wrote to him on March 1, 1962.³
