The speculative style of Wittgenstein's thought
pp. 247-252
in: Rudolf Haller, Johannes L. Brandl (eds), Wittgenstein — eine neubewertung/Wittgenstein — towards a re-evaluation, Berlin, Springer, 1990Abstract
There is in Wittgenstein an internal relation, that is to say an original and indissoluble connection, between a particular piece of the contents and the overall style or method of his thought. This is what I like to call the "speculative" in Wittgenstein: a word which means that each stage of the analysis of language somehow presupposes the whole distance of analysis as already covered.
