I am going to press certain criticisms of Prof. Weil's paper. But I want to say first how very much I admire it, because not only is it a very profound paper, but it is also very useful. It shows, I think, the imprint of Hegel's Phänomenologie. It cares for and promotes a working understanding of Hegel rather than a precisely directed rearward looking glance. Now, since I admire Hegel's system much more than I do the Phenomenology, I shall differ from Prof. Weil on certain points, though not actually many, and really none of them at all fundamental; and my differing with him does not mean that I haven't been greatly charmed and stimulated by what he has said.
