For a theory of nationalism
pp. 10-61
in: Alain Dieckhoff, Christophe Jaffrelot (eds), Revisiting nationalism, Basingstoke, Palgrave Macmillan, 2005Abstract
While, in France, nationalism has long remained the preserve of historians1—before anthropologists,2 sociologists3 and political scientists4 began paying increasing attention to the issue—American and English political scientists started early, soon after the Second World War. Since then, given the quickly expanding body of literature on nationalism in English, one may expect that this subject has given birth to a well-structured sub-discipline in Anglo-Saxon political science.5
