Towards a systemic semiotic approach to multimedia interface design
pp. 247-270
in: Kecheng Liu, Rodney J. Clarke, Peter Andersen (eds), Information, organisation and technology, Berlin, Springer, 2001Abstract
Various semiotic approaches have been advanced for the analysis, design and implementation of hypermedia and multimedia systems. Most notably, the work of Andersen (1997) provides an approach to hypersystems analysis, design, and assessment drawn principally from European structuralism, especially the glossematics of Hjelmslev. A systemic semiotic approach formed by combining aspects of systemic functional linguistics (Halliday 1985; Hasan in Cloran et al eds/ 1996; Martin 1992) and social semiotics (Kress 1985; Lemke 1995) has been recently applied to hypersystems theory (Clarke 1995, Clarke 1998c) and end-user systems development (Clarke 2000).
