ARIS (Arts, Research, Innovation, and Society) is being conceptualized to add to the understanding of how art, research, innovation, and society are being interlinked in structure and process, and which creative and innovative designs are possible. Arts, artistic research and arts-based innovation are essential for the further progress in sustainable development of economy, society, democracy and ecology in a new balance. Our vision and our understanding are: creativity in general and the arts in particular are increasingly recognized as drivers of cultural, economic, political, social, and scientific innovation and development. In this conclusion chapter, it is attempted to summarize the different chapter contributions to this book within broader context. The summary drafts a résumé and synopsis for further debate. A typology of three main themes is being proposed, which serves as a conceptual framework, and to which the individual chapter contributions can be referred to: arts, innovation and creativity; arts, arts and the sciences, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge production and research; arts, economic growth, quality of democracy and the context of society.
