Abstract

In her recent book entitled Neurophilosophy (1986), Patricia Churchland provides a brief overview of the ideas of selected philosophers whose views have been historically influential in the development of epistemology and philosophy of mind. She credits Kant with the insight that introspective awareness may not yield immediate truths about the way the mind really works, since the mind's observations of itself are mediated by the categories and the form of inner sense.
