Abstract

The existential approach to counselling is above all philosophical. Its primary concerns are understanding the position of people in the world and determining what being alive means. When examining these questions existential counsellors adopt a receptive frame of mind, rather than employing a dogmatic approach that pigeon-holes clients into pre-established categories and interpretations. The main aim is to find the truth, using an open mind and an attitude of wonder.
