Arts and Jewish day school education in north America

in: Helena Miller, Lisa Grant, Alex Pomson (eds), International handbook of Jewish education, Berlin, Springer, 2011Abstract
Jewish educators debate the value of the arts within an education system which is fraught with issues of dual curriculum, vision, time, and budget. This chapter examines the goals, content, and methodology of how the arts are being taught in North American Jewish day schools. The author identifies two basic models: arts-based schools and arts-infused schools, and draws a continuum of curriculum integration where the teaching of the arts ranges from arts as discrete disciplines to multidisciplinary integration.
