The present volume differs from other volumes in philosophy of science in at least one respect: it contains discussions in the philosophy of all types of sciences, of the social and historical human sciences as well as the natural sciences. The term 'science" is here consequently used in a broader sense than is usually the case, particularly within Anglo-American philosophy.
