Abstract

In recent years, new performance practices have emerged that prioritize such technologies as motion tracking,1 artificial intelligence,2 3-D modelling and animation, digital paint and sound, robotics, interactive design and biotechnology. These practices have emerged within the context of a broad-based technological infiltration in all areas of human experience and in a variety of ways, with implications that are seemingly both ontological and epistemological. This chapter provides a preliminary view of and signals what is indicated by digital practices. I am arguing that due to the preponderance of performance practices which utilize the above technologies, a retheorization of aesthetics and perception as a whole is needed.
