Epilogue
Milton in the digital waves
pp. 245-259
in: David Currell, Islam Issa (eds), Digital Milton, Basingstoke, Palgrave Macmillan, 2018Abstract
Duran's semi-formal set of observations situates the discussions in Digital Milton within three "waves' of digital humanities and reaches some thought-provoking conclusions. This epilogue considers the continuities and changes of the elements and processes of Milton's texts as they make their way into and are read in a digital world. Duran argues that the third digital wave mediates the reading of Milton's works and singles out two matters that permeate the structures of reading. First, Duran considers access and literacy, topics central to two of Milton's most well-known prose works: Areopagitica and Of Education. Second, Duran discusses how the third digital wave might affect Milton's shorter poetry in particular. The epilogue indicates how digital texts can express technical and social developments.
