Abstract

This chapter interprets the four strands of social economics presented in the preceding chapters. It attempts neither to present the final word on what separates or unites the four strands nor to argue that any one of them is right or wrong, but to indicate something of their limits and their relationships to each other, and to do so from a particular complex explicit perspective. In the process I shall identify what I think is the distinctive core of social economics, emphasizing that it may be pursued in various ways.
