Abstract

In his book, Defender of Democracy, Emil Ludwig calls Tomáš G. Masaryk the wisest European. ¹ His integrity, his good intentions were for the majority of his contemporaries beyond doubt. Under Masaryk's influence, Czechoslovakia was a democracy and remained one until 1938 in the ocean of totalitarian regimes that surrounded her.
