Abstract

Physical realism has today a chance to free itself from two old curses, thanks to the parallel developments of the Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen paradox and of the causal description of (single) atomic systems.First of all it can free itself from the accusation of being metaphysical, since it is capable of falsifiable predictions. Secondly it can overcome Niels Bohr's interdiction against a description of two observables represented by non-commuting operators as simultaneously real. These two lines of thought are here reviewed and developed.
