Abstract

Although Jorge Semprún's plays are not as well known as his novels, autobiographies, and film scripts, his work as a playwright enters into dialogue with the rest of his oeuvre, presenting, and sometimes anticipating, important themes explored elsewhere.1 Semprún enjoyed engaging in all aspects of theater: the writing of plays, the rehearsals, the contact with the actors, the director and the audience, and even the Brechtian principle of letting the actors and producers give the definitive form to a play when rehearsing.
