Alexander Schnell

Alexander Schnell studied engineering and philosophy at the University Pierre and Marie Curie Paris and the University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. He obtained his PhD in 2001 and his habilitation in 2008. Since 2016, he is director of the Institute for Transcendental Philosophy and Phenomenology (ITP) at the University of Wuppertal.

Dans la continuité de l’ouvrage Relire Totalité et infini (Vrin, 2015), ce livre se consacre à la lecture et à l’interprétation d’Autrement qu’être ou au-delà de l’essence (1974). Emmanuel Levinas y radicalise sa pensée par rapport à Totalité et infini (1961) en déplaçant l’accent sur la question de la diachronie du temps et en montrant comment l’humain est travaillé par une intelligibilité immémoriale qui n’appartient plus à l’ordre de la manifestation et qui n’est plus commandée par la question de l’être constituable par la conscience.
